My name is Sean O'Mahony. I live in Vancouver, Canada but I'm originally from the UK. I was lucky growing up, I lived all over the world (Middle East, Africa, the Mediterranean). I obviously got a travel bug. As an adult I've lived and worked in the UK, Spain, Israel, Sweden, Ireland, Australia, Japan, the US, Canada and Luxembourg.
I've worked in a number of different roles as well. I washed dishes and worked in bars through university. Then I worked in the oil business, drilling for oil. For some reason I ended up in Tokyo for 5 years and worked with a technology consulting company. They moved me to Palo Alto in the US where I learned about startups. My beautiful wife Carole is Canadian -- that's how I ended up in Vancouver.
Now I "do" startups. It's the perfect thing for me. I love working with small dynamic teams on new ideas.
I'm on my eighth startup right now -- I work for Cubic Telecom. I've literally just started working with Pat Phelan on his new startup based in Cork, Ireland.
Before that I was the Product Manager for Jajah Mobile at Jajah. And prior to that, CEO of Excilan in Luxembourg (a mobile payment/authentication system). The Cloud in the UK acquired Excilan. Before that I was the founder and CEO of FatPort -- Canada's largest Wi-Fi hotspot operator. Before that I was the founder and CEO of Bitmovers and BOPJET. Bitmovers created an environment for developing mobile applications (it was called MAUI). BOPJET was a hosting company and I sold it to Digital Forest in Seattle.
Before that I leaned the startup trade from a couple of small companies in Palo Alto.
I use a 15" MacBook Pro and a Nokia E61.
I'm a roadie -- I cycle in the summer and X-Country ski in the winter. I try to eat well and drink red wine every day.
I love football (soccer). Sadly I support Norwich City, it's a painful thing. It must be me though as since I moved to Canada I got into hockey and I also support the Vancouver Canucks. That's also painful!
